Being an amateur photographer myself, I can understand the fascination and appeal of photographing humans, be it in a potrait form or in a candid manner. In fact, I also feel that animals make good photography subjects as well, though
Why photographs of humans or animals? I personally feel that humans and animals offer a certain degree of uncertainty, which makes them potentially vibrant, spontaneous and unpredictable subjects. It is this degree of unpredictability that produces once-in-a-lifetime photographic opportunities which could also produce award-winning photographs.
Photo-editing should also be considered an important skill in the art of photography. I used to think that good photos were those that were left totally untouched and un-edited. That used to be the case with traditional film photography, but with the advent of digital technology, one can easily edit photos using digital software without much hassle.
Though I must say that traditional film photographs create a certain "feel" which cannot be recreated in digital photographs, editing can sometimes "salvage" photos which, at first glance, may look unusable. Just a few adjustments to the colour, contrast and saturation with some slight cropping will do the trick.
